Getting to CornwallMost visitors arrive via the A30. This road can become congested at peak times and visitors may well be advised to avoid it during peak times. The M5, the motorway to the South West, stops at Exeter and there are no motorways in the county. However, there are services and roadside cafes alongside most of the major routes and there are ample lay-bys, some secluded, that caravanners can use for short stops. The main routes to your caravan park or campsite continues with either the A38 "Devon Expressway" or the A30. Both are near-motorway standard for much of their length so, traffic jams excepted, they provide an easy route to most parts of the county. There are many steep hills on the way to and in Cornwall. Each season sees several caravanners stranded with over-heated engines or with burned out clutches. The major motoring organisations recommend that you ensure your car is in good order before any long journey.
