Welcome!
The Plume of Feathers Inn is the oldest building in Princetown, predating the famous prison by over thirty years. The history of this old inn dates back to the early 1780's when Sir Thomas Tyrwhitt built Tor Royal estate on land leased to him by the then Prince of Wales, who because King George IV. Sir Thomas was a man of vision whose ambition was to see the desolation of Dartmoor turned into productive farmland. Fortunately for those who love the moor as it is today, he failed to achieve his aim. |
Situated in the centre of Princetown, the main village of Dartmoor, The Plume of Feathers Inn is ideally placed for those exploring the rugged beauty of the moors. Your stay in the well-kept camping area or bunkhouses will be enriched by the warm welcome offered by the family-run Inn. Dartmoor, with over 365 square miles of rugged grandeur, is famous for its beauty, quaint villages, prehistoric remains, and its many peaks and tors. Probably the last largely unspoiled wilderness in Southern England, this is a place of legend and history; a place of peace and quiet to recover from the pace of modern life.
